Artist and brand collaborations always draw the collective fashion-seeking, trend-toting moths to the retail flame. So it doesn't take a stylish mathematical genius to see that Del Toro Shoes' new collaboration with label LVRS designed by the new musical don Theophilus London is a sure shot hit. The kick off release party at Black Tag in NYC was a mix of everything both he and the brands are. Rudeboy edginess, mash-up revelry and that downtown NYC vibe.
A brand that makes feet floss grown and sexily, a brand that merges DIY, pop art & the punky and the artist that is giving music a modern, punchy, hip-hop & ragga grooved out sound collaborated on a retake of Del Toro's velvet slipper. Complete with vivid embroidered rose and laurel wreath and stars all set on a plush black velvet background, this collabo shoe gets cool nods all around the board. Why? It can be dressed up with the nattiest tailored ensemble or dressed down with the most washed and distressed tee and slim jean combo and still allow the wearer to keep that grown & sexy factor.
You get the sense that there's a story there when you see a smooth cat donning these shoes; a story that you may want to hear. It kind of makes sense that Matthew Chevallard of Del Toro did a collabo with LVRS and London. It tells a story of the high-low cultural, tongue in cheek sensibilities of LVRS, London and Del Toro. The shoes are now available in limited quantities on Del Toro's website and the shoes and LVRS X Theophilus London tees are at Black Tag NYC.
