A brand being great on it's own is one thing. However, a brand being great when paired in a cool collabo only makes the greatness that much more kismet. Richard Chai, the new garde Prince of coolly and cleverly remixed menswear staples and a subscriber to what I call 'look twice' fashion has collaborated with the venerable boot company Palladium.
Look twice? It's an idea of fashion that causes one to do a double-take due to interesting details, color mashes or fabric pairings that are appropriately irreverent but uniquely appealing. It's these thought out optics of design that have made Richard Chai a notable designer to add his nuances to a familiar line like Palladium.
Launched Tuesday night at a pop-up shop at Odin NYC was Chai's remixed schtick on four of Palladium's Pampa boots. Two mid Pampas in easy corduroy and two high Pampa in textured flannels with accents in black rubber and canvas give the collection a suave downtown casual edge. The shop at Odin is highlighted by a cube designed by Snarkitecture. The company, that has collaborated on other Richard Chai installations in the past, constructed a cube with reflective walls that add depth to the viewers visual perception of the boots and inverted molded pedestals on which each of the boots sit create a solidly playful perception of the boots as timeless strength.
Altogether its a cool holiday pop-up shop just in time for the shopping rush whether you're gifting or in need of well-made shoes with great design to pound the pavement in. Available now exclusively at Odin NYC @ 199 Lafayette Street, 212.966.0026.
